Hello and welcome to the youth section of Sturminster Newton United FC. I hope you will enjoy your time browsing through our site and getting a feel for our club.
My name is Leon Jennings and I was appointed as the Youth Chairman towards the end of October 2010. In addition to this I am also the Club Welfare officer. I have always been a keen a sportsman and fully appreciate the advantages sport can bring to an individual’s development benefiting them in all aspects of their lives. While in the armed forces I played sport at the highest level including participating in the Hong Kong Sevens. I am totally committed to coaching youth sport and passionate about passing on those life skills learning opportunities. Football is an excellent medium and my knowledge of the game allows me to effectively coach children of all ages 6 to 60. Recently I have preferred to concentrate on girls and women’s football because of the unique challenges they command.
When you explore our club you will see we have around a dozen teams including some that are girls only. The wide age range catered for by our own fully qualified and experienced volunteer coaches and managers make this the ideal place for your son and daughter to have fun, make new friends and of course participate in football. We encourage every individual to do their best and we pride ourselves in the development of the player taking precedence over the results themselves. In the younger groups for example the score sheets are not even recorded. This gives the younger players more confidence to try out new skills and ideas without the worry or pressures associated with perceived failure.
We are always looking for new helpers or even trainee coaches or referees to develop. If you think this might be you, help and support is available from the club and I would be only too delighted to assist you.
