POOLE TOWN WESSEX COLTS 3 – v - STURMINSTER NEWTON UNITED 2
Going against the wind in the first half Sturminster found it hard against a Poole side high on confidence; a defensive mistake led to Poole to taking the lead. Sturminster started to get into the game with a few half chances when Poole went on a counter attack and went 2-0 up with a shot in to the top corner. Our heads did not go down and Poole with the wind advantage kept attacking in numbers and were causing us lots of problems, and an attack down the left wing with a cross coming in Poole headed in to make it 3-0. As half time was approaching Sturminster got a corner which was taken short and a well-timed run to the near post Sturminster headed in to make it 3-1 the half time score
As the second half started and attacking with the wind Sturminster piled on the pressure and started to create chances but found the Poole keeper in fine form. Mid-way through the second half and the game was really opening up with Poole going for their fourth goal and Sturminster looking to get back in to the game, and the next goal went to Sturminster with a fine volley on the edge of the box flew in to the top corner.
Time was running out for Sturminster but we really piled more pressure on the Poole defence, but could not fine the equalising goal. The game ended 3-2 to Poole Town.
That result has seen Poole Town overtake us to go top but only on goal difference.
