A reminder to all players that the Player's Presentation Night is on Saturday 12th May starting at 7pm. As well as the end of season presentations, there will also be a disco.

Tickets are £10 and available from either Gary Head, Rex Upshall or Richard Frear.

Last Thursday evening was a great night for me and the club, and I hope everyone who came to support us enjoyed the occasion.

It was nice to put some silverware back into the club and for that I would like to thank Steve Manning, Rick Revell and Rex Upshall. Last season, Rex and myself were dealing with a team each and had very little opportunity to cross over and make decisions together. This year, I have been able to get help and advice from the others and that has proven invaluable.

Steve's technical knowledge and coaching has been second-to-none this season and he has been a fantastic assistant to me this year. Rick has balanced about three different jobs in his first year at the club and he is also the man who recommended Tee-Jay, our goalscorer from the cup final, to the club. He has also given me plenty of advice along the way that has proven really helpful, particuarly whilst Steve was away having a baby!  Rex has done a sterling job with the reserves and hopefully either tonight or this Saturday we will be celebrating the great escape!

Ideally I would like to push on after this cup win and try and finish higher in the league in 2012/13.  The aim, if all goes to plan, is to try and win our place back in the Dorset Premier League.

Steve, Rick and Rex; I appreciate everything you have done for the club this season. You have made a massive difference and the cup win is just rewards for your hard work and commitment.

Midfielder Dan Carter has made a decision to call time on his playing career.

Carter, pictured below with club chairman Emanuel Paxiao, bows out in style taking a Dorset Senior Trophy Final medal with him after the 1-0 cup final success over Parley Sports. The industrious midfielder has been forced to call it quits due to a hip injury.

"Very few players who were in the first team when I arrived at the club are still in there, but Dan is one of the few that have remained a constant. He has never let me down and it will be a big loss, not only on the pitch but off it as well. He is a well liked character in the dressing room and will be missed" commented manager Gary Head.

The former Donhead, Gillingham, Shaftesbury and Downton midfield joined the club in 2006, and has been a regular at the heart of the SNUFC midfield. Born locally in Shaftesbury, the Notingham Forest supporter made 98 appearances for the club between 2009-12 - 35 in 2009/10, 34 in 2010/11 and this season, he was involved in every one of the club's 26 league games plus three cup games, including the recent cup final win.

Everyone at the club would like to wish him the best for the future, hopefully he would like to stay involved with the club next season in some capacity!

Teejay Smith-MacFarlane's goal on the hour mark won the Dorset Senior Trophy for Sturminster Newton United.

The Cherries lined up with the same starting XI as they started with against Bishops Caundle, with Robbie Proctor, Mike Revell and Darren Spiller called up after impressive performances for the reserves in recent weeks.

Goalkeeper Jamie Beale made a difficult save look easy when he cleanly held a shot from just outside the box from Parley Sports midfielder. Centre back Robert Froud was booked for a tackle from behind on a Parley forward as both sides played in an edgy start to the game. The windy conditions and the pitch surface made playing passing football very difficult. The two sides went in 0-0 at half-time, with neither side really taking control of the game.

In the second period, Sturminster grew into the game.  Teejay Smith-MacFarlane (pictured below) put the North Dorset side into a vital lead with thirty minutes remaining as he passed the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net past Parley goalkeeper Neil Gilbert. Stur celebrated the goal and nearly made it two, when midfielder Steve Moore's free kick brushed the bar from 25 yards.

With moments remaining, the referee pointed to the penalty spot after Beale had tripped a Parley attacker, but the offside flag came to the rescue and Sturminster were able to see out the remaining moments in the game. Captain Mike Budd lifted the trophy in front of the Sturminster supporters on a sweet day for the club.

"I am really proud of our achievement" said manager Gary Head. "The lads really deserve it particuarly those that have stuck with the club through thick and thin". One of those players, vice-captain Dan Carter revealed after the game that he is retiring from playing after a long and illustrious career at Barnet's Field. 31 year old Carter has had to call time on his playing career through a hip injury.

"Dan is a great example to every player at the club, young and old. He has a lot of love for the club and I am sure everyone would like to join me in wishing Dan the best for the future" added Head.

From round one to the final, Sturminster Newton only conceded one goal in the entire competition, that being a penalty kick during the semi-final stage.

SNUFC: Beale; A Gould, W Gould, Carter, Froud, Sweatman, Budd (c), Moore, S Frear (Spiller), Smith-MacFarlane, Moussalli (Traas). Subs not used: Proctor, Revell, Stockley.

The squad to face Parley Sports Reserves at Wimborne Town is below.

Beale, Budd, Carter, S Frear, Froud, A Gould, W Gould, Moore, Moussalli, Revell, Robson, Smith-McFarlane, Spiller, Stockley, Sweatman, Traas.

Players must all wear shirt and club tie if they have one, if not Gary has a red tie for you which will need to be returned to the club. Please also bring your club tracksuit for the warm up.  Players will need to arrive at Wimborne for 6:30, kick off is 7:45pm.

I am very much looking forward to taking my team to the Dorset Senior Trophy Final on Thursday but we are going there with the aim to win the competition - not just to enjoy the occasion.

We have a very important training session ahead of the final this evening (Monday), as well as a reserve team game on Tuesday night against Gillingham. Although I know what my squad will be, I want to wait until after the reserve game has finished to see how the players that I have selected come through that game.

I went to watch our cup final opponents Parley Sports Reserves on Saturday as they lost 1-0 to top of the table Portcastrian.  They have some good players who try and play the way football should be played, so it should be an entertaining game.

We are also very much looking forward to representing the people of Sturminster Newton, especially those that have given us their support this season. We will go there and give it our all and hopefully come away with the cup.

Dorset Senior Trophy Final; Thursday 26th April, 7:45KO, Wimborne Town FC.

N.B. Congratulations to Portland United Reserves who look like they have won the Senior League title. Their 5-0 defeat over ten men Piddletrenthide this weekend takes them top with a game in hand.

The Sturminster Newton United AGM will be held at the club on Wednesday 23rd May at 7.30pm.

All members are invited to attend as all of your votes count! General Secretary position is one of a few positions to be put to the vote.

Players are reminded that there is no game this weekend for either the first or reserve team.

Training ahead of the reserve game on Tuesday night vs Gillingham A and the Dorset Senior Trophy Final on Thursday will commence at 6pm on Monday evening - all must attend.
